About Us

The Bradford Wing Chun school is part of The Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association which was set up in Leeds in 1991 by Sifu Colin Ward on the sole request of Grandmaster Ip Chun, eldest son of the late Great Grandmaster Ip Man. Ip Man is famous for teaching Bruce Lee but also for being the modern day founder of Wing Chun Kung Fu.

The Bradford Wing Chun School is taken by Tim Halloran – Senior student to Sifu Colin Ward. Tim has been training in Wing Chun for over 15 years and has studied various martial arts from an early age settling on Wing Chun after meeting Sifu Ward in the early 90′s.

Sifu Ward is one of only 13 representatives of Grandmaster Ip Chun and established The Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association to help spread original and ‘pure’ Wing Chun.

By ‘Pure Wing Chun’ we mean, in its simplest, most practical and most effective form without ‘adding’ onto the system, unnecessary and un-Wing Chun techniques.

“Anyone can ‘add on’ to a system, the hard part is to take away and yet still keep it pure.” (Ip Man)

Since opening, the association has flourished with different schools opening in and around Yorkshire and more recently nationwide and into the rest of europe. There are now schools in Scotland, London, Lincolnshire and Geneva as well as Bridlington, Bradford and now in Harrogate. The Association’s headquarters are still in Leeds and the school is now based in its own permanent, fully equipped building.
